This Weekend’s Must-Eat Food Pop-ups & Drops in NYC

Let’s be real…keeping track of all NYC’s food pop-ups and limited-edition dish drops has been nearly impossible. Over the last few decades, pop-ups have been on the rise in NYC and 8it has become the go-to source for tracking all of them and helping these entrepreneurial chefs get discovered. From chef residencies to sidewalk pop-ups, we've sifted through the culinary chaos on Instagram to bring you a handpicked selection of NYC's finest pop-ups and limited-edition drops that you should dig into this week. Consider this your backstage pass to the hottest pop-ups & limited-edition eats in NYC! Dive into our weekly curated list of upcoming food adventures before they disappear 🧨💥

It’s Fashion Week in NYC, which means the sidewalks are flooded with models chain-smoking American Spirits and running on nothing but cold brew and vibes. Respectfully, that’s not our ministry. While they’re counting calories, we’re counting down the minutes to the next bite. We’re out here stacking burgers like accessories and reaching for pizza like it’s Prada. This week’s Must-Eats lineup is the real runway.

Tom Cunanan x Demo
Demo // 34 Carmine St, NYC // Sat 9.13 - Sun 9.14

📸 @demo.nyc

For two nights only Chef Tom Cunanan is taking over the Demo kitchen, presenting an 8-course menu (we already like it… 🎱). The 2019 James Beard Award winner is visiting from Houston, Texas with a lineup of Filipino-inspired dishes ready to blow your mind. And while Fashion Week is out here serving looks, Tom’s serving plates - which, let’s be honest, is way more satisfying. The menu is $125 and there’s an optional wine pairing is available for $75. Based on our last couple vino-fueled experiences at Demo, we highly recommend the pairing.

Border Town
Ore Bar // 277 Graham Ave, BK // Fri 9.12

📸 @bordertownbk

We have two very important announcements: 1. one of our favorites, Border Town, is popping up this weekend, and 2. they’re serving up not your average roasted potatoes. Enter: La Papa Asada. This Sonoran specialty, traditionally known as Papancha, is a roasted potato split down the middle, fluffed and buttered (I like where this is going…), then piled high with mesquite-grilled carne asada (uh huhhhhh), queso Chihuahua (cheese me, please me!), frijoles de la olla (yes, chef!), sour cream, salsa roja, green onion and cilantro. This is gettin’ us real excited for what’s to come at their brick and mortar come Fall!

Bone-In Shio Tonkatsu
Kings Co Imperial // 20 Skillman Ave, BK // Thru Tues 9.16

📸 @kingscoimperial

In celebration of ten years in business, Brooklyn’s Kings Co Imperial, launched ‘Dishes of a Decade’, a series of unique collabs from June through the end of this month. We’re about halfway through the two-week showcase of Chef Emily Yuen of Lingo, who created the Bone-in Shio Koji Tonkatsu topped with Hong Kong Curry and Chinese Pickles. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Heart of Dinner, supporting food security for New York’s Asian American seniors.

Chrissy’s Jalapeño Specials
Chrissy’s Pizza // 142 Nassau Ave, BK // Thru Sun 9.14

📸 @chrissys.pizza

Chrissy’s is running back one of the simplest - and most popular - specials at the shop. A classic pie with thinly sliced fresh jalapeños and mandolined garlic cloves to order. If you ask me, simplicity is brilliance. Go get a taste of brilliance this weekend.

Dinner With Chef Liron Shnaider
Sami & Susu // 190 Orchard St, NYC // Sun 9.14

📸 @syncopated

Sami & Susu is hosting Chef Liron Shnaider to share a taste of what’s to come before he opens his Brooklyn project next year. The menu, available for just one night, focuses on seasonal dishes from land to sea. A three-piece amuse-bouche will get things warmed up, followed by a blue crab bisque (I see brown butter in your future) and yellow zucchini fondant. Next up is the kajiki (swordfish belly) and moulard duck, polished off with a lemon-salted caramel crémeux cheesecake mousse. Sounds like that needs a runway.
