Keeping up with NYC’s food pop-ups and limited dish drops is basically a full-time job. 8it does it for you. We track the most time-sensitive drops across the city (from chef residencies to one-day collabs to sidewalk pop-ups) and every Friday we hand-pick the ones we’re especially excited for. Here’s this weekend’s must-eats…
Memorial Day weekend in most cities means burgers, hot dogs, and someone dusting off a grill they haven’t touched since last summer. New York’s got better options. This weekend lands right between the end of AAPI Month, one of the city’s biggest BBQ festivals, and a pizza party. Here are five ways to celebrate this long weekend right.
Cumin Lamb Neck Taquitos

: instagram @goldendinerny
Golden Diner’s got Chef Nick Wong of Agnes and Sherman in the kitchen this week – and this collab dish for is something worth celebrating. Cumin, Szechuan peppercorn, and garlic-braised lamb necks, stuffed in nixtamal tortillas, drizzled with cilantro crema, and topped with chili crisp.
Heunkuoa

Fri 5.22 • 4:30pm till sell out

: @heunkuoa
Lao food pop-up, Heunkuoa, is landing at Land to Sea tonight with a menu who’s flavors will kick up your long weekend. On The Plate Brooklyn
Frog Wine Bar

: instagram @otp.bklyn
OTP is taking over Frog’s backyard with a Filipino-leaning cookout built for wine people. Marinated olives, grilled potatoes, beef kofta with whipped feta and carrot cake are all up for grabs – with a special chori burger addition that puts Filipino flavors between two buns.
Rib King
Industry City
635 2nd Ave, BK
Sat 5.23 • 1pm
: instagram @smoke_sweats
Rib King is basically the Super Bowl for smoke nerds. Pitmasters from all over pull up to Industry City throwing down ribs, brisket, glazes, and wild amounts of meat and creativity. From Kevin Morgan serving up savory sweet creations with Mikes Hot Honey, to Anthony Scerri of Smoke Sweats building the bbq version of a baconeggncheese, you’re guaranteed to leave stuffed, likely with drippings on your shirt, and a run in with our very own Steve8it, who’s an official judge.
Paradise Pizza
SAA
154 Scott Ave, BK
Thru Sun 5.24 • 12pm till sell out

: instagram @paradisepizzzagc
Paradise Pizza is taking over the SAA terrace all weekend with Neapolitan pies, shawarma, and day-party energy. Can’t make it for the day party, check out their Mambo Italiano Dinners that are kicking off on Saturdays.
