Lunar New Year takes the lead this weekend, but not in the predictable way. Chefs are celebrating the moment to cook something personal, following the lines of tradition, or ignoring them completely. Plus a few non-holiday drops that deserve equal attention.
Ceniza
📍Time Again
🏠 105 Canal St, NYC
🗓️ Fri 2.20 • 5pm till sell out

: instagram @ceniza_nyc
Ceniza is Lebanese-Mexican by way of chef Luis Ahuet, who has a fine dining background and started this pop-up to cook looser and louder. The wagyu tacos are the draw and they sell out first. There’s ceviche tostadas, barbacoa, mushroom tacos, and flan, but we recommend you don’t overthink it and just order one of everything. Get there early or miss the wagyu tacos; you’ve had your warning.
Soup by Pickle Juice
📍Frog Wine bar
🏠 358 Marcus Garvey Blvd, BK
🗓️ Sat 2.21 • 6-9pm

: instagram @picklejuicenyc
Pickle Juice lands at Frog with two soups worth clearing your schedule for: spicy lobster ramen and herbal duck noodle. Both are gluten-free, so a bit lighter on the belly but still built with depth. Beef tartare, cheesy bread, and an apple dessert might end up in the mix as well, but the ramen is the star of the show.
Forsyth Fire Escape: Chino-Latino New Year
📍Pinky Swear
🏠 171A Chrystie St, NYC
🗓️ Sun 2.22 • 2-6pm
: instagram @forsythfireescape
For Lunar New Year, Chef Isabel Lee of Forsyth Fire Escape brings a Chino-Latino dim sum menu to Pinky Swear to ring in the Year of the Horse. Order the pernil dumplings with coconut crema and Sichuan oil and the longaniza wonton tostada. Kat Sobredilla of LIGAW is on cocktails, built to match the menu.
Hellbender × Radio Bakery
📍Radio Bakery, Greenpoint
🏠 135 India St, BK
🗓️ Fri 2.20 – Sun 2.22 10am till sell out
: instagram @radiobakerynyc
On the heels of being named one of NYC’s best Mexican restaurants on F*ck That’s Delicious, Chef Yara Herrera of Hellbender keeps pushing past the usual playbook. Hellbender and sister spot, Radio Bakery, are dropping two pastries: coconut conchas filled with coconut custard, and a chorizo & potato quiche in a croissant shell topped with salsa macha and lime. Get there early; they’ll be gone before you can say adios.
